Dead or Dead Broke? Is there another option for retiring Americans?
“Only 4% of Americans are financially successful by age 65. What’s gone wrong with modern retirement planning?” –Jon Bellman
Texas native Jon Bellman spent most of his working life as an educator, including a 13-year stint as a high school Agricultural Science teacher.
As his career progressed, Jon began to see the results that years of poor financial education had on the people around him. Many, if not most, people he knew had little financial security, especially as they reached retirement age. Jon believed that much of this struggle was due to a lack of understanding about how money really works.
Knowing he had the skills and tools necessary to improve people’s financial literacy, Jon left teaching in 1992. He then started a financial services company dedicated to helping people make better decisions about their money.
“People used to ask me all the time if I missed teaching. I would tell them that I didn’t. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized that what I was doing with my financial services firm was still teaching. I was educating people how to take control and improve their current and future financial situations,” says Jon.
Jon’s current education track centers on helping Americans discover the most efficient, effective ways to protect themselves and their money. One service Jon provides is creating blueprints for his clients to help them avoid paying more taxes than legally required.
His customized plans also help people better balance their portfolios to gain safe, predictable growth while shielding against market risk.
“Many people worry about running out of money in retirement. But, there are ways to guard against this situation. I want to get this information out to as many people as possible so they can improve their chances of retiring successfully,” Jon says.
When he’s not busy designing customized financial improvement plans, Jon engages in various community activities and is active in the Wylie Antique Machinery Society in Wyle, Texas. He is also president of the Texas Chapter #25 of the International Harvester Collectors Club and Regional Advisor of the South-Central Region of EDGETA, Early Day Gas Engine and Tractor Association.
